welcome to Troop 95!

Located in Sussex, Wisconsin

Scoutmaster's Message:

Hello and welcome to the BSA Troop 95 Web site.  My name is David Norton and I am the Scoutmaster of Troop 95 in Sussex, Wisconsin.  Scouting is a program designed to prepare young people to make moral and ethical decisions throughout their life by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. We, the youth and adult leaders of this Troop, embrace this mission with eagerness and enthusiasm.

Some of the things we focus on as a Troop help us in achieving this mission:

  1. We are a boy led troop. The scrambled eggs on a campout Saturday morning may be a little runny.  The meetings may seem chaotic to the untrained eye.  We are a boy led Troop, warts and all.  But we recognize that there is no better way to teach leadership than to practice by doing.  Sometimes we may fail, many times we succeed tremendously, but every time, we learn valuable lessons.

  2. Camping.  Scouting is meant to occur outdoors.  In this environment, we learn how to be prepared and how to be both self reliant and how to work as a team.  We try to plan a weekend camping opportunity at least once a month. We have camped on the beaches of the Florida Keys, fought horseflies as big as your head in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota, pitched our tents on a sandbar in the middle of the Wisconsin River, and spent nights in caves with bats hibernating above our heads.  These are the experiences that the boys will remember and carry with them long after their brief time with us.

  3. Advancement.  If success is measured by outcomes, there can be no debating our success as a Troop.  In the last year alone, we have had three boys attain the rank of Eagle Scout, a feat only 5% of Boy Scouts can claim.  But we are not an “Eagle Factory”.  We recognize that advancement is a tool that enables young people to challenge themselves, set goals, and work hard to achieve them.  Having boys earn their Eagle rank is not a direct goal of ours, but rather a natural result of our commitment to the Scouting program.

On behalf of all of the Scouts of our Troop, and our dedicated adult leaders, we welcome you to Troop 95.  I hope you find the information presented in this website useful and informative.  If you would like more information, or are interested in joining Scouts and are located in the Sussex, WI area, please call me at (262) 373-0770.
