Troop 53 is chartered to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Congregation in New Berlin.  Our meetings are held every Tuesday during the school year at Herbert Hoover Elementary School in New Berlin.  The meetings run from 7 PM until about 8 PM.  We are in our 38th year, and have earned the Quality Unit Award again for 2008.

Any adults who would like to know more about the Scouting program and how it is designed to work, are encouraged to enroll in New Leader Basic Training.  There are separate training sessions for Leaders or Committee Members.  Please see Rick Ryan for information or Click Here for the next available training sessions.
 
 

A Recent Troop Meeting



Community Service

The Troop is very active in community service, and has become a regular service provider for New Berlin SAYES (Senior Advocate Youth Exchange Service).  We have also been active in collecting items for organizations sending personal items to our military units overseas.  For those Scouts who participated in this activity, we recently received a "Thank You" from Bostik Findley Adhesives Inc, a local company coordinating one of these efforts.
 

To Boy Scout Troop 53
       On behalf of the employees of Bostik Findley, I would like to thank you for your recent contributions to our "Support our Troops" drive.  With the help of your donations, we were able to ship 340 pounds of items in 11 boxes to an Army support unit located in Iraq. 
       The unit consists of 110 men and women who are serving their time just north of Baghdad.  They are responsible for the fuel supply for the area.  They love receiving items from home, especially from those they do not know.  Knowing that people are thinking of them gives them the encouragement to keep doing their jobs. 
       We at Bostik Findley are pleased to know that you care enough to assist us in our efforts.  Out thanks to you.

Outings

We are a very active troop, going on an outing every month and to summer camp at Long Lake in July.  We have been meeting at Lost Arrow Campsite for week 3 as long as any members can remember.  In 2003 our high adventure group became certified as Open Water Scuba Divers, and now as new Venture Crew 53 members, have performed more dives. 

In the summer of 2005, we sent a crew to the Scuba Adventure at Sea Base, attended again the summer of 2007, and have reservations in August of 2009.  Last summer 2008, we had 2 crews canoeing the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Minnesota.

In the summer of 2006 we took a 50 mile canoe trek on the Rifle River in Michigan.

    Adult leader basic training and supplementary sessions are designed to help adults learn the basics and advanced skills needed to effectively lead a Scout Troop.  District sessions are over for the season, but many courses will be held weekly at Camp Long Lake during the summer.  Check the Camp Long Lake Web Site for information.
