Medical Forms

There's a new Council policy: all medical forms need to be signed by the scout's parent each year. See Liz to see if you need to re-sign your scout's medical form.

Leader Meeting

The next leader meeting is a picnic on July 30th.

More information will be sent via email or contact Craig Lange.

August Campout

The August Campout is just around the corner! We'll be going to Twin Lakes Scout Camp in the Bay-Lakes Council. We'll be working on Tenderfoot physical fitness requirements for those who need it. Fishing and canoeing will also be available. (Canoeing requires Class A or B certification)

This is a family camp! Families are invited... Just remember, a parent must attend if any non-Troop 4 scouts or siblings are attending.

Cost: $25 / person

When: August 4-6, 2006

Time: Meet at ETC at 11:30 am Friday, August 4
         Leave ETC at 12 pm
Return to ETC at aprpox. 1 pm Sunday, August 6

RSVP (money & permission slips) by July 25th!

We're in need of driver's for this outing as the RV will not be available for boys to ride in. Please let Liz know if you can drive.

Class 1 medical forms (signed this year) are required for all attending. See Liz if you need a form or to see if your form has been signed this year.

WANTED:

Troop Elections

The August Newsletter will have stories and highlights from Summer Camp.

But... We thought we'd announce some awards the Troop won:

Outstanding Campsite

1st Place - Archery Troop Shoot

3rd Place - Aquafest

Congratulations to the following scouts:

First Class: Henry P

Scout: Patrick P, Jason G, Tyler A, Chris S

Troop Elections will be held the last Troop Meeting in August. Start thinking about what positions you want to run for or who you want to nominate for which positions.

Nominations for SPL, ASPL, PL (Dragon Slayers) and APL (Dragon Slayers) are due August 15th.

SPL & ASPL require 2nd Class or higher.

Long Range Summer Camp Plan

Camp Long Lake is fun and Project First Class is a great way for new scouts to get a lot done towards advancement. But we know that going to the same camp every year can get boring.

The PLC (Patrol Leader's Conference) approved a Long Range Summer Camp Plan at their June Meeting.

  • 2007 -- Return to Long Lake (same week and camp site)
  • 2008 -- Another Summer Camp in Wisconsin --
possibly Northern Wisconsin where all meals are Patrol Cooking
  • 2009 -- Black Hills South Dakota
  • 2010 -- National Jamboree in Washington DC

This is a tentative plan and is subject to change. National Jamboree has age/rank requirements. Other long distance camps may have age/rank requirements as well. We are looking at keeping Camp Long Lake as the Summer Camp where new scouts go.

BSA Ready & Prepared Award

The BSA has a Ready & Prepared aware for Troops. Would you believe that we already meet 5 of the 10 mandatory requirements. We almost have the 3 elective requirements necessary for Gold (there are 6 for Silver).

If we get this... We could be the first Troop in the Council to get the award!

Acceptable Knives

Subject to Committee Approval, the knife policy is as follows.

For normal pocket knives -- you must have a Whittling Chit or a Totin' Chit (and be carrying it).

For locking blade knives -- you must have a Totin' Chit (and be carrying it).

NO spring actions for opening or closing (switchblades).

NO sheath knives.

Unacceptable knives, inappropriate knife care, inappropriate usage, etc or absence of Chit will cause the knife to be confiscated, Chit corners cut, etc.

Youth Protection Video

At the August 22nd Troop Meeting, we will be watching a 35-minute video “A Time to Tell” dealing with abuse of minors. The video is intended for scouts 11 to 14 years old.

Any parent wishing to preview the video, please contact Liz or Troop 4.
