January Court of Honor & FOS Presentation
January 17, 2023

We will be celebrating everything the scouts have earned since August at the January 17 troop meeting with a Court of Honor!

Also this night: a quick overview of what’s coming up this year and our annual Friends of Scouting presentation. Come support the scouts and what they’ve achieved and support the Council in its efforts to bring excellent program opportunities to the scouts.

2023 Calendar

The Scouts did a great job planning events for 2023. The Calendars are available on the Troop Website for printing the full-year overview.

Rotary Pancake Festival
February 4, 2023

This is a great opportunity to earn service hours and make scouting visible to the community. We will be helping bus tables at the Rotary Pancake Festival. Come early and enjoy pancakes (scouts who are working eat free - otherwise tickets are available at the door).

Doors open: 7:30 am - 12:30 pm. T4 “official” shift is10:30 am to close, but feel free to work earlier if you’d like -- there will be BSA leaders from other troops there earlier.

4B & 4G January Cabin Camp
January 13-15, 2023

We will be heading up to Camp Long Lake for a Scout planned fun weekend of cabin camping!

4B Winter Blast Adventure
January 21, 2023

We will lead events for this fun Cub Scout event in Johnson Creek. Service hours will be earned towards rank advancement. Lunch is provided. Bring a water bottle.

4B & 4G Eagle Cave Explore & Camp
February 25-26, 2023

We will be heading up to Eagle Cave to explore Wisconsin’s largest onyx cave. Saturday will be a day filled with adventure exploring the caves. That night we will sleep in the cave! Eagle cave remains around 50 degrees.

It will be wet and muddy so old clothes/shoes should be planned for. It’s suggested you find old clothes you can throw away or purchase some from St. Vincent de Paul or Goodwill for this outing. A packing list and more info will be sent out to families closer to the event.

Sign up has closed -- if you are interested in if there are any spots available, contact Mrs. Ames.

4B 2024 Seabase

Interest Signup & Deposit due: January 17, 2023 at the Court of Honor.

Troop 4B will be attending Sea Base in 2024. Currently the Keys Adventure is the number one choices by vote. The Keys Adventure includes staying in a dorm and doing a different adventure each day including snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, out-island overnight, sailing and visits to key west and other points of interest in the Keys. It offers a bit of everything Sea Base has to offer all in one trip. Details will be finalized after the crew(s) have been registered with Sea Base.

Pinewood Derbies

We’re coming up on the time of year where the Troops run pinewood derbies for various packs around Potawatomi Area Council. These are a GREAT opportunity to show off Troop 4 and earn service hours.

A full list is available and sign-up slots are available on Sign-up Genius.

Slack

The Troop has begun using Slack as a communications tool. We are slowly expanding who has been invited. This is a tool for youth and adults. If you haven’t received an invitation, please reach out to Mr. Fields!

Troop Adult Assistance

We’re always looking for additional help from parents (and leaders). If you want to help, please let us know.

Some Ways You Can Help:

  • Becoming a Registered Leader
  • Being an adult chaperone on outings (requires Youth Protection Training)
  • Driving to and from outings and events (recommended to have Youth Protection Training)
  • Assisting with specific events (such as Fundraiser product pick-up)

In-Person Troop Meetings

Things to remember:

  1. Monitor your personal and family health. If your scout or family has had a fever in the last 2 weeks, has been sick in the last 2 weeks consider staying home. Please ensure you do not currently have a fever.
  2. Continue good hand washing / sanitizing practices - with additional washing / sanitizing as activities require.
  3. If you are un-vaccinated: Wear a cloth mask or face covering whenever inside a building or when within 6 feet of another person. Masks are optional if you are fully vaccinated.
  4. Disinfect surfaces after each meeting.

Got Advancement?

Looking to have requirements signed off? Remember, it’s up to you to seek out a scout First Class or Above to test and sign off on your requirements. Once they’ve dated and initialed your advancement sheet, drop it in the box and it will get recorded in Scoutbook. Not in the box or without the initials of whoever signed it off? It doesn’t get recorded.

What about Merit Badges? Once you decide you want to work on a badge, fill out a Blue Card and take it to the Scoutmasters to sign off. They’ll also help you find merit badge counselors. Having issues contacting a counselor? Let Mr. Wagner or Mrs. Landquist know so they can help find another counselor.
