Wreath Sales/Lost & Found Box
Boy Scout Troop 165 has kicked off their annual wreath sales fundraiser which will end on November 4th. We are really trying to raise enough for a badly needed trailer for the troop. We are running out of room in our current trailer because of the growing troop and we also need to purchase some updated equipment.
We have also spent the last 2 troop Meetings working on a new Lost & Found box for Amy Belle School which should be completed soon.

NYLT Training
Congratulations to Cal and Hunter for completing the "National Youth Leadership Training at Camp Long Lake.
The National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) course simulates a month in the life of a troop. It is a six-day course, held in an outdoor setting that reinforces and expands upon Be-Know-Do leadership ideals learned in the Scoutmaster ran Troop Leadership Training (TLT). Scouts learn a number of leadership skills and concepts, the youth learn about the stages of team development and how to match the most appropriate leadership style with the developmental stage of the individual or team. The course has many challenges for the youths, including its culmination where they undergo a quest for the meaning of leadership, which they then present to the entire NYLT troop.
The NYLT course has Eight Key Elements:
- 1. A month in the life of a Troop
- 2. The Four Stages of Team Development
- 3. Leadership Requires Vision, Goals, and Planning
- 4. Toolbox of Leadership Skills
- 5. Consistent Leadership Modeling
- 6. Scout Oat and Law
- 7. It’s Fun
- 8. The Traditions
The Scouts come away from their NYLT experience with exposure to the best of the best of leadership techniques. They have learned so many invaluable skills about how to create a vision of success, how to set goals and make plans, how to listen and solve problems, and how to teach and lead. Most of all, they learn the bigger of how to put needs of others first in order to be a truly great leader. They learn to use the Scout Oath and Law to make hard decisions and to remain true to Scouting’s values.
Good job guys!
Thanks,
MrZ -

Camp Valenta (Will re-schedule later)
Camp Valenta is scheduled to help the boys out with skill training. The new scouts will be covering the requirements for Tenderfoot, Second and First Class that they will not cover at summer camp. The other scout's activities are still in the planning stage but will probably be something boring like jousting, sword fighting or an introduction to battle axes and other assorted medieval weapons training! Maybe we could even throw in some sweet ninja skills.

Jackson Rummage Brat Fry Fundraiser
WoW! You guys are getting good at this! Thanks to all that could help out on Saturday, it was another success. It was nice to see all of you working as a team and actually enjoying yourselves while working. We had many compliments including "You have the best brats in town!" We actually at least DOUBLED what we made on our past Brat Fry's and I think with a good analysis of the sale, we could come up with even better results next time with minimal extra effort. Excellent!

Camp Silverbrook Tent Set-up
I hope everyone enjoyed the Camp Silverbrook campout even though we were forced to stay in a cabin instead of tents due to the weather. (Everyone seemed pretty upset that we couldn't stay outside in the cold wet weather ;) They said the tents looked great, everyone did an outstanding job keeping busy during set-up. I think we put them up in a record time this year! Thanks to Tommy and Josh for their tasty meals and everyone else for helping out with clean-up. We'd also like to thank Joel for coming out and checking out the troop, I think you may have even had some fun. Good job guys!
