Greetings All,
Welcome new scouts and a great beginning to the new scouting year. The year began with our pack meeting and the recruitment drive. We have a great response from the community.
The pack meeting introduced the leadership and the new families to the pack. The kids were awarded their summertime activity pins and other awards that they earned during the summer.
Cub Scout Pack 23 "Cleans Up" at September Pack Meeting
Pack 23, chartered by the Swanson PTO, started off the new school year and its September Pack Meeting by picking up garbage on the Swanson playground as part of the Pack's objectives of "Good Citizenship" through service to the community. Cub Scouts from Swanson grades 1 through 5 with ranks of Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelos gathered together with bags in hand and policed the playground collecting bags of garbage. Guided by Den Leaders and parents the boys formed single file lines, moving from one side of the playground to the other picking up pieces of paper, plastic, golf balls, tennis balls, and lots of other discarded items blown on to school grounds.
The theme of the Pack Meeting was "Cooperation" which the boys were able to demonstrate through this project. It also gave the boys the opportunity to get outside, have some fun with their friends, and give back to their school, all at the same time!
Following the garbage pick up project, the Pack welcomed new boys during their fall registration. Boys joined into Tiger, Wolf and Bear ranks and increased the Pack membership over 10%. After learning a little about the Scouting program, everyone enjoyed the "Cooperation" activity of Clementine Juggling.
We have been featured on the Potawatomi Council website homepage.
Spirit Pole : Den 5 earned the Spirit Pole for September with the highest participation rates in the Pack Summertime Activities and they are decorating the pole with a Camping theme.
Check out our pictures section for the pics of the den 5 meeting (feats of skill) and the pack meeting for September.
The pack would like to thank all the parents who voluntarily came forward to arrange and ensure that the event was a success.
Ottawa Lake Soup Hike
We had a soup hike organized by the pack at the Ottawa Lake on the 24th
of September. The newsletter will beupdated with more details on the outing and
pictures as soon as they are available.
Pack Meeting at the Indian Mound Reservation
We will be conducting the Pack Meeting at the amphitheater at the Indian Mound
Reservation Scout Camp in Oconomowoc (just off Hwy 67 and I-94). Just a
reminder, you need to walk about 2 blocks to get to the bonfire area from the
parking lot so be sure to arrive by 5:45/5:50 PM so we can start the meeting
promptly without the distraction of late arrivals.
In the event of inclement weather, a decision will be made the day of the
bonfire as to cancellation of the event at IMR and holding the meeting at
Swanson Cafeteria. An email will be sent via Scouttrack to all Pack families and
a phone call chain within each Den will be generated to assure all families are
made aware of the change. Please be sure your Den Leader has proper and updated
contact information for you.
Note: Each scout, please bring
one piece of firewood.
Each den/patrol, please bring a gallon of water.
Parents, please carry a flashlight as the path leading to the firepit are not
lit.
Again you are welcome to bring anyone interested in checking out scouting to the
bonfire. And don't forget to bring your whole family!
Directions to the IMR

(Please note that the Sawyer road exit might be closed for construction.)
