  • RSS feed available
    Saturday, September 18, 2010 1:54 PM

We are using an (Atom) RSS Feed to communicate when changes are made to the web site. This includes new Saddle Bag items and Calendar changes.

There are a number of excellent tutorials available that describe how to subscribe to RSS feeds using various clients. There are also other pages that describe the features of various RSS clients.

    • For Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and 8:

  • Our event information is available through Google Calendar
    Saturday, September 18, 2010 1:54 PM

We are using Google Calendar to store our event information. There are many advantages by using Google Calendar. Specifically, it offers an easy to navigate interface via a web browser and allows users to subscribe to the calendar so that any event changes are automatically synchronized to their local calendars (including some hand-held devices).

There are a number of applications that may subscribe to a Google calendar. The URL of the Pack calendar can be obtained from the bottom of the calendar.

    Calendar Subscribe Links

    • For Microsoft Outlook 2007 or 2010 (included with Microsoft Office 2007 or 2010, not Outlook Express):
      • Right-click the green icon that reads "ICAL" and choose "Copy Shortcut".
      • In Outlook, choose Tools...Account Settings and click the Internet Calendars tab. Paste (Ctrl+V) the URL of the ICS file that you copied in the previous step. Click Add.
        Outlook Calendar Dialog
      • The Internet Calendar is now part of your Outlook Send/Receive group and whenever you press F5, Outlook will synchronize it's content with the online Google Calendar. Remember that it's only a one way data transfer. New events added to Outlook won't be published to the Google Calendar.
    • For Apple iCal:
      • In Safari, click the Green icon that reads "ICAL".
      • When iCal opens, it will present a dialog containing the URL of the calendar.
        iCal Subscribe Dialog
        Select "Subscribe".
      • iCal presents a second dialog on which you may change the subscription settings. It is recommended that you change the "Auto-Refresh" to "Every Hour".
        iCal Subscribe Dialog
        Select "OK".
    • For Mobile Devices: use Google Sync for your phone

Please contact us if you have any issues or an interest in subscribing to the calendar using an application not listed above.

  • All new web site
    Saturday, September 18, 2010 1:54 PM

The web site has been completely redesigned to include new features and a new look.

    The new features include:

    • A comprehensive collection of links - links to all kinds of Scouting-related information
    • Google-hosted calendar - Google is hosting all of our event information, which allows us to provide more information that can be synchronized to a user's local calendar (including a hand-held device)
    • RSS Feed to notify users of changes to the web site - allows users to be aware of changes to the web site (including Saddle Bag items) without having to visit the web site to check for changes
